My name is Sara and I am a psychology major at Niagara University – I am working on my Bachelor of Arts. I also have minors in writing studies, statistics, and general business. I am planning on working with children in the future. I would love to work in a school with children who are struggling at home. I was also adopted from Russia when I was about 1 year old. I love animals and I have a cat named Stewart and two fish.
I have and always will love helping others. I wish I had more time to do volunteer work during the school year. I recently spent a week doing service in Camden, New Jersey. My experience there was very eye opening and made me realize how some people live. It made me appreciate what I have. Spending time there, I know that I helped make others happy.
I spent most of my time volunteering at a Catholic elementary school. I learned not only about others, but about myself, too. When I told the class about myself and what I wanted to do as a career, some of the students wanted to talk with me one on one about what they were going through. I learned about what it’s like for children to live in a poor city and I also listened to one student’s adoption story. It amazed me how emotionally strong these children are. At the same time, I came to the conclusion that I do want to work with children like them.
